OBJECTIVE The objective of the EKG Technician program is to prepare students to seek entry-level employment in a healthcare setting and to perform duties under the supervision of a nurse or a doctor. Electrocardiograph (EKG or ECG) technicians perform diagnostic tests to aid doctors in identifying and treating cardiovascular problems in patients. With additional on-the-job EKG training or experience, you may specialize in areas such as cardiac catheterization, Holter monitoring, phonocardiography, stress testing, and vectorcardiography. You should have an interest in high-tech mechanical equipment and be able to sympathize and reassure patients who are apprehensive about the testing procedure.
DESCRIPTION A Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification is ideal for those looking to join the healthcare industry and learn the in-demand field of electrocardiography. Gaining your EKG credential and passing the CET certification exam through the nationally accredited NHA (National Healthcareer Association) will make your career more competitive. Our 12-week online EKG certification program will prepare you for certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as a Certified EKG Technician (CET). You’ll learn medical terminology and disease processes and will become familiar with healthcare settings, how to explain procedures to patients, monitor blood pressure, position patients, apply Holter monitors, and assist cardiologists with stress testing. This EKG Technician program is ideal for someone interested in an entry-level healthcare career and is often used as the first step towards obtaining advanced certifications like Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, and Patient Care Technician. Upon completion of this program, students wishing to sit for the Certified EKG Technician exam will be required to complete a minimum of 10 EKGs on a live person.
EXTERNSHIP An externship course is included in this program to provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to real-life situations in a pharmacy setting. Students are required to complete the required externship hours and other related learning activities before graduation. Students are not paid for work performed at the externship site.
CREDENTIALING EXAMS Students in their final quarter are eligible to take National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) Certified EKG Technician(CET) exam.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Upon satisfactory completion of the training, students are prepared to seek entry-level positions as EKG Technicians performing diagnostic tests to aid doctors in identifying and treating cardiovascular problems in patients.
